Galway has a large variety of shops to suit every taste. Shop Street is the main shopping street in Galway and is pedestrianised so people can stroll through Galway City in comfort. Throughout the city, you will find award winning food and craft shops alongside high end clothes stores and specialised bookshops.

Opening Hours

Most shops are open every day of the week but some smaller shops may remain closed on Sundays. The normal trading hours are between 10.00am and 6.00pm and most will stay open late on a Thursday and Friday night, until 8pm. Sunday trading usually operates between the hours of 11.00am and 6.00pm.

All shops and pubs are closed on Christmas Day.

Markets

Galway is renowned for its food market on Lombard Street. It takes place on Saturdays between 9.00am to 5.00pm and is definitely worth a visit during your stay. Here you will have the experience to view and purchase some of the best food and crafts that Galway has to offer.

The market operates every day of the week during the Galway Arts Festival.
